<p dir="ltr" align="justify">Despite ongoing worries about fall-out from the Eurozone crisis, a regular global survey of over 19,000 organisations in 52 countries has found jobs market for professionals and managers holding up well.</p>
<p><strong><strong></strong></strong>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">The ‘Global Snapshot’ project from the multi-national recruitment firm, Antal International, asked 19,376 companies in major markets such as western and eastern Europe, Africa, India, China and the USA whether they were currently hiring at professional and managerial level.</p>
<p><strong><strong></strong></strong>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">It then asked whether they planned to do so in the coming quarter and whether they were currently letting staff go or were planning to do so in the next three months.</p>
<p><strong><strong></strong></strong>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">Current hiring levels across the globe were up with 55% of respondents recruiting at professional and managerial level in comparison to 52% in the last survey in July. 54% of organisations questioned also intended to hire in the coming quarter.</p>

<p dir="ltr" align="justify"><strong>Western Europe</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">The highest levels of hiring were found in Malta (82%), Luxembourg (69%), Norway (68%) and Sweden (68%), while the lowest was recorded in Spain where only 27% of companies questioned were in the process of recruiting at professional or managerial level. In the UK the percentage of businesses recruiting was down from 61% in July to 48% now but is expected to rise to 58% in the coming quarter.</p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify"><strong>Eastern Europe and Eurasia</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">The highest levels of recruitment in this region were found in Turkey (74%), Russia (67%) and Czech Republic (65%). The lowest were recorded in Hungary (39%) and Croatia (38%).</p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify"><strong>Middle East</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">Employment markets were relatively strong across the region, the weakest, in Bahrain registering a respectable 52% hiring rate. The highest levels of recruitment were found in Qatar (77%), Saudi Arabia (73%) and Oman (70%).</p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify"><strong>Africa</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">In the continent’s most high profile economy, South Africa, hiring levels were up dramatically from 56% in July to 68% now and this figure is only expected to dip marginally to 67% over the next three months. The highest level of recruitment was seen in Nigeria where 73% of businesses polled were hiring professionals or managers.</p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify"><strong>Asia Pacific</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">The Philippines recorded the highest level of recruitment activity in all 52 countries surveyed with 98% of organisations currently hiring. Activity was down marginally in China from 70% in July to 67% now but is expected to climb to 68% in the coming quarter. In India the percentage of organisations increasing headcount had risen from 69% in July to 72% now and is due increase to 75% in the next three months.</p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify"><strong>The Americas</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">All six employment markets surveyed in the Americas – Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico and the USA – all registered at least 60% hiring activity at professional and managerial level. Canada had the strongest performance with 66% of businesses currently seeking staff.</p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify"><strong>Conclusions</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">“While the ongoing troubles of the Eurozone seems to be generating an atmosphere of near panic amongst many bankers and politicians, global employment markets, at least at professional and managerial level appear to be holding up well,” says Antal’s CEO, Tony Goodwin.” Despite predictions of a return to the darkest days of 2008 and 2009, the latest Snapshot sees overall hiring levels actually greater than in the summer – up to 55% of organisations surveyed from 52% in July. “</p>
<p dir="ltr" align="justify">“As might be expected the driving force behind the figures is the continuing success of economies in emerging markets, particularly those in Asia. As a result the region has the highest level of recruitment around the world – 67% in comparison to just 39% in Western Europe. Global Snapshot continues to highlight just how dramatic the shift of economic power is becoming. If this trend continues it could be that the next generation of movers and shakers in the business world will be found in Beijing, Brasilia or Bangalore rather than in Boston, Birmingham or Berlin.”</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>I joined Antal International 1 month ago in the new role of Sales and Marketing Assistant for the Franchise Division. As I am learning more about franchising every day, I took this opportunity with the <strong>‘Better Business Magazine’</strong> to understand more about what motivates our franchisees to strike out into business and make the decision to chose a franchise, over going it alone. I chose our franchisee of 15 months Salvatore Fernandez because he has a very interesting background and story to tell! Salvatore kindly took time out to join me for a coffee and answer these questions.</em></p>
<p><em> </em><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">The Questions:</span></strong></p>
<p>[1] Why did you choose the franchise method to start your own business? And why did you choose your particular franchise business?</p>
<p>I have been working in the hospitality sector for a long time, most of my career. After some 30 years of managing and owning hotels &amp; restaurants, it was important for me to do something that utilised my knowledge of this industry and my network, but avoid some of the problems that you can face in firsthand working in the Hospitality industry.  With the Antal International recruitment franchise, I am able to place people back into the hospitality sector, so it allows me to continue working in the same industry and increase my network. The other important advantage of joining Antal International is that I instantly became part of a global Network of business professionals which allows me to place people internationally. It is motivational to help companies become more successful because of the candidates I introduce to them and also to see the growth opportunity for candidates.  After considering my business options, some careful research, led me to the conclusion that franchising would be the best and easiest solution for me as I would join a company with a great branding pedigree, who was already enjoying success and profitability and that has training and infrastructure around me.  </p>
<p>[2] What is the key advice you would give to other prospective franchisees that are considering this kind of self-employment?</p>
<p>Don’t get swept along by the passion you feel for a certain brand, make sure you spend time doing due diligence. I would always advise people to invest time in researching the company and brand you intend to invest in. This research can take time, but it does minimise the risks and will help you to feel secure about your decision. That being said, don’t let this get in the way of making a decision.  To be a business owner and enjoy the benefits and flexibility, you also need to be prepared to make a decision and take responsibility for the consequences, because sometimes things can go wrong. To quote Salvatore word for word:</p>
<p>“You have to go there, build your own business but also be prepared to lose.”</p>
<p>[3] How did you finance the purchase of your franchise? Did you find it difficult in today’s economic climate to raise the funds you needed?</p>
<p>I was lucky to have my own finances due to the selling of my hotel but what I would advise people is to prepare  a solid and realistic business plan with clear objectives about the money you want to earn. Many credible franchisors will be able to provide bank contacts who will be able to help them with financing the franchise.  Be realistic when writing your business plan, but also be aspirational about your targets.  The most valuable advice for staying on target is to always remain positive, because it will breed more positivity and clients and colleagues will notice and reflect positivity back to you.</p>
<p>[4] Do you find that your franchisor is helpful with the running of your franchise operation?</p>
<p>My franchisor, Antal International has always been very helpful all the way through and I know that assistance is available to me whenever I need it.</p>
<p>[5] What is the main pitfall to watch out for when running a franchise?</p>
<p>The main pitfall is that sometimes people forget that they are still responsible for their work. Even if you work for a well known business brand, you are running your own business and you must take full responsibility for the way you manage your reputation and work.  No matter what business you go into, you get out what you put in.  It’s very important to remember this and stay motivated because the pressures and deliverables in running your own business come from different angles to those in employment.</p>
<p> [6] Can you offer any advice regarding the ideal terms that new franchisees should negotiate as part of their franchise agreement?</p>
<p>There’s no list of ideal terms I would like to see in an agreement, the only thing I would advise people is to negotiate whenever possible. My motto is that there is always a deal that can be done and you should always try to get the best.  Ethical franchisors are more interested in building a long term relationship with their franchisees and will make their money through ongoing royalty payments, so my advice is to try to negotiate on the license fee.</p>
<p> [7] How do you see the franchise sector developing in the future?</p>
<p>There will always be people who may be a little apprehensive about launching their business alone and who will enjoy many benefits of being part of a supportive, tried and tested infra<del datetime="2011-11-02T17:15"> </del>structure.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In 1992, after a successful sales career overseas, Jim got into the executive search business by purchasing an MRI franchise at the age of 29.  Since that time, he has developed a practice that specialises in the recruitment of executives &amp; teams of engineers within the medical device  manufacturing sector. Due to his uncanny ability to attract &amp; deliver turnaround leaders, Jim has established himself as the industry’s “go to headhunter”. Starting as one of MRI&#8217;s youngest franchisees, Jim&#8217;s cumulative, personal billings now exceed $16.8M. </p>
<p>Previous to MRI, Jim enjoyed a successful business development career overseas in Europe where he developed his sales track record and business acumen.  When it came time to make a career change, Jim didn’t want to work his way up through the corporate ladder nor be confined by internal politics nor location. “For the most lucrative positions, the window of opportunity had already closed, says Jim; as I was never going to be a doctor, lawyer nor investment banker and it was highly unlikely I would invent a product that would lead to wealth. But, like many of us, I had some skills, had the right attitude and I knew that hard work, combined with the right business would enable me to create the life style I always wanted”.  However, on the verge of going at it alone, Jim was apprehensive. He was most anxious that launching a business in a totally new market while risking all of his hard earned investment capital on something that he didn’t understand nor know how to execute.  His concerns were settled, “When I met Doug Bugie at MRI and who is now the CEO of Antal International, he showed me that by launching a recruitment business, I could harness my skills, background and business acumen in a way that would enable me to exceed all of my aspirations”. </p>
<p>Having placed well over 750 professionals, Jim has impacted their careers and countless family members. Several of Jim&#8217;s appointments currently hold senior executive positions with Fortune 1000 companies where they lead and shape the medical device industry. <p>For the eight years before opening his business, Jim lived in Germany and three other countries and worked in over 12. During that time, especially in Germany, he achieved a lot but also made his share of mistakes.  “Germany shaped the early years of my business career….living overseas without being tethered to the States was a great challenge; both professionally and personally”, says Jim,  “and I continue to have strong links to many friends and businesses in German…it’s a recognized leader in the Medical Device and Pharmaceutical industries.  Germany is the most important market in Europe but its recruitment culture needs an engaged and proactive approach that leads to a ‘win-win-win’ outcome.
